1. Business Overview

Tyte Jeans. is a rapidly-growing producer of women’s denim and casual bottoms. From its origins in Junior sportswear the Company has used its extraordinary sourcing capabilities and unique designs to develop a unparallel bottoms business.

Based in Commerce, CA, the Company has developed a prolific design staff. Product is sourced worldwide, with offices overseas supervising production and quality control in Asia and other regions. But since its founding 15 years ago the company has focused on cultivating extraordinary designs to compliment the streamlined manufacturing. Due to what the company believes are unique sourcing capabilities, the Company views itself as having evolved into a portfolio of synergistic businesses that, taken together sets the Tyte apart from other competitors.

Due to the forwardness and prowess of the company, virtually every sales channel—including clubs, mass merchants, mid-tier and regional department stores and specialty chains—have become customers.

2. History and Business Model

The Company was founded in 1991 by Alden Halpern, an executive with many years in the woven bottoms business. For the four years prior to the Company’s founding, he had served as President of Creative Garment (d/b/a Breaker Jeans). Starting with a small startup investment, Mr. Halpern, capitalizing on the solid relationships with retail buyers that he had cultivated over the prior 15 years, has parlayed the Company into a Junior and Missy bottoms powerhouse that has grown to become a leader in its industry.

The company started off with a small line, produced domestically, and a focus on sustaining gross margins with low-risk customers. A key breakthrough came when Merry-Go-Round started giving the Company business and, shortly thereafter in 1996, when Federated Department Stores began to place orders.

In its early years, the Company relied on its Tyte Juniors brand for the bulk of its sales. But as department stores grew increasingly aware of the unique designs and talent at Tyte produced the company had no choice but to respond to the market by introducing a private label division.  With long-standing supplier relationships, prolific product development capabilities, and an outstanding fulfillment track record, the company essentially transformed itself into a dual-model business:

A branded manufacturer of denim and casual bottoms, and A private label “sourcing” company with unique product development capabilities.

The growth of both divisions had been driven by innovation and hard work. The Company has worked to upgrade systems and distribution facilities to assure that the requirements of both Tyte label and private label customers continue to be met. In August 2006, the Company consolidated three Los Angeles-area distribution centers into a single new facility in Commerce, CA. While this facility yield savings in labor and distribution overhead, the primary impetus for the move was to assure that the growth in sales would be mirrored on the “back end” with efficient fulfillment performance.

Today Tyte Jeans has become one of the leaders in design and production.  As fashion and design change on a daily basis, the company has proven to its competition, buyers, and most importantly individual customers that Tyte Jeans will always be “The Standard” to beat.
